Selena Quintanilla: Queen, Icon and Myth of Tex-Mex Music

Selena Quintanilla lived only 23 years, but before her death she was already an icon of music and entertainment in America. Proud of her Hispanic ancestry, she always sang in Spanish, even in the United States. He showed at all times the pride he felt for his family and showed that with perseverance dreams are fulfilled, despite having to overcome innumerable difficulties. She had a life as short as intense, as she was not only a singer, but also an actress, model, businesswoman and fashion designer.

Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971 in the Texas town of Lake Jackson. His parents, she Panamanian and him Mexican, had three children and together they formed one of so many happy and stable families of Hispanic origin established in America. Through the years, and thanks to the precocious talent of Selena, this one ended up becoming one of the most relevant figures of the Latin music with sales that surpassed the 60 million discs. Her success has made her one of the most accomplished Hispanic women behind Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

Called the “Queen of Tex-Mex, Queen of Cumbia and Queen of Latin Music,” Selena was named the most influential and best-selling Latin artist of the 1990s by Billboard Magazine. Even today, she holds the record of being the only female artist to have five albums at the same time on her Billboard 200 chart.

The Tex-Mex is a musical style of the region conformed by the state of Texas and states corresponding to northeastern Mexico, a formula that Selena internationalized and whose successes continue to play today on Mexican radio stations and Hispanic America.

The musical inclination of Selena Quintanilla is due to her father, also a musician, who supported her at all times. Together with her brothers, Susette and Abraham, formed the group Selena and Los Dinos, who began acting in the restaurant that father directed and with which the future queen of Texas music began commercially at age 12.

These are the last works of a career that include international successes like I could fall in love, a few years in which Selena also launches to the world of the fashion with its own brand of clothes and participates in telenovelas like actress.
